Christine Frenette worked for 14 years as an Alcohol and Drug Toxicologist for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Canada. She is now a private consultant on toxicology matters through her business “Tox Expert”. She has earned her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Laval University in Quebec City. She has an Analytical Chemistry and Toxicology Master’s degree from Guelph University and a second Master’s degree in Forensic Toxicology from the University of Gainesville in Florida.

She has focused her career on alcohol impaired driving; data analysis and interpretation, results reporting, testifying. She has trained fellow coworkers and taught toxicology and breath testing to several outside agencies.

Christine has taught the Intox EC/IR II user course, an approved breath testing instrument largely used in Canada, for over 7 years throughout the country. She has been a guest lecturer at several Canadian universities (Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario and Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario), teaching general forensic toxicology, alcohol and drug impairment and forensic reporting. She has also conducted seminars for judges and lawyers on alcohol and drug impairment, the relevancy of results and their impact on driving abilities.

In 2018, she became a member of the Canadian Society of Forensic Science (CSFS). Since 2020, she has been sitting on the Alcohol Test Committee (ATC), one of CSFS’ subcommittees, offering scientific advice to the Canadian Federal Minister of Justice regarding matters pertaining to alcohol testing in cases of drinking and driving, as well as advice related to new alcohol screening devices and approved instruments.

Since 2018, Christine has also been sitting on the ISO Technical Committee for the standardization and guidance in forensic science (ISO/TC 272), representing Canada and ensuring toxicology is properly considered in broad general areas such as the detection and collection of physical evidence, the subsequent analysis and interpretation of the evidence, and the reporting of results and findings.
