Taylor J. Samek

Sergeant, York County Sheriff's Office

Sgt. Samek is a ten-year veteran to law enforcement and is currently assigned as night shift supervisor at the York County Sheriff’s Office in York, NE. In conjunction with his supervision duties, Sgt. Samek currently oversees the field training program, police service dog unit, and serves as the training coordinator for his agency. Sgt. Samek is a certified Drug Recognition Expert, Canine Handler, and SFST Instructor in the State of Nebraska.

Throughout his career, Sgt. Samek’s roadside investigations have led to the discovery of illicit drugs, illegal weapons, arrests of impaired drivers, and the recovery of thousands of dollars of stolen merchandise. In addition, Sgt. Samek has a passion for locating endangered and missing children along with conducting roadside child abuse investigations which have led to the removal of children from abusive households. He has lectured on the topic of substance abuse and drug impairment to members of the Nebraska National guard, local hospital staff, school officials, and other community organizations.

In recognition of his enforcement efforts, he has been honored as a three-time MADD Hero award winner and was recognized as the State of Nebraska 2023 Drug Recognition Expert of the Year by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office. He has been recognized by the National Interdiction Network for the recovery of missing/endangered children during traffic stops in 2021, 2022, and 2023. In 2024, he was recognized by the Nebraska County Attorney’s Association/United States Attorney’s Office with the Law Enforcement Coordination Award relating to a child exploitation investigation. He has also been honored by his agency with the 2024 Employee of the Year Award, 2024 Life-Saving Award, and 2022 Exceptional Duty Award.
