Dr. Matthew P. Juhascik is the Chief Forensic Toxicologist for the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office and Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory in Dayton, OH. The laboratory covers over 40 counties throughout Ohio for their postmortem and antemortem toxicology needs. He began his career at UMass Memorial performing postmortem forensic toxicology for the state. He subsequently became the Deputy Director of Chemistry for the Massachusetts State Police overseeing not only toxicology but also seized drug analysis and breath alcohol testing. Separately, he is the Owner of MPJ Forensic Toxicology Consulting, LLC.
Dr. Juhascik holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Dayton (1999) and a Master of Science degree in Forensic Science from the University of Illinois-Chicago (2000). In 2005, he received his Doctorate in Biopharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Illinois-Chicago with his research focusing on toxicological testing for drug-facilitated sexual assault cases.
Dr. Juhascik is a Board-Certified Forensic Toxicologist (F-ABFT) and a member of the Society of Forensic Toxicologists, The International Association of Forensic Toxicologists, American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Analytical Toxicology.
Dr. Juhascik has 20 peer-reviewed publications and has presented his research at national conferences. He has co-chaired several workshops at national meetings and has twice been the Scientific Session co-chair for the Society of Forensic Toxicologist annual meeting.
Dr. Juhascik is heavily involved in participating in the development of standards for the Forensic Toxicology community. He served on the Toxicology Subcommittee of the Organization of Scientific Area Committees (OSAC) in its first years and was subsequently asked to return for a second term. He also has served on the AAFS Standards Board’s Toxicology Consensus Body since its inception.
In 2008 and 2011, Dr. Juhascik was awarded the United Chemical Technologies Excellence in SPE Award. His research was also awarded the Society of Forensic Toxicologists Young Scientist Meeting Award in 2006.
Dr. Juhascik has served as a Co-PI on several National Institutes of Health grants. His current research interests include method development/validation, LC/MS/MS, emerging drugs of abuse and epidemiology of drug use.
