Alcohol Pharmacokinetics: Absorption

Course Description:

This is the first course in our Alcohol Essential Series, which aims to provide a comprehensive education on the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and chemical testing of alcohol.

Pharmacokinetics is the study of how drugs move through the body, including absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME).

Our first course on alcohol pharmacokinetics explores alcohol absorption. Participants will learn about different routes of alcohol administration, the role of the gastrointestinal tract, and other physiological considerations. Significant attention is devoted to understanding factors that do and do not affect the extent and rate of alcohol absorption. The course concludes with a review of best practices in considering alcohol absorption. This foundational course enhances understanding of the behavioral and physiological factors associated with alcohol absorption and will improve investigation, interpretation, and testimony in cases regarding alcohol impairment.
