Autism Awareness for First Responders

Course Description:
This course prepares first responders to recognize and effectively interact with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Participants learn about the prevalence and characteristics of autism, behavioral indicators, and common co-occurring conditions. The course outlines practical communication and calming strategies, including the six-second rule, and provides guidance tailored to law enforcement, fire, EMS, 9-1-1 telecommunicators, and judicial professionals. Emphasis is placed on collaboration, crisis response teams, and diversion to appropriate community-based services
