Meet Our Instructors

Dr. Michael Fagiola is board-certified forensic toxicologist and currently serves as the Deputy Chief Toxicologist for the State of Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. His responsibilities in this role include administering the daily operations of the toxicology laboratory including casework flow, testing decisions, technical and administrative review of state casework, certification of laboratory reports, management of toxicology resources, and method development and validation. Prior to his current role, he began his career in toxicology as a Forensic Scientist for the Nassau County Medical Examiner’s Office in Nassau County, New York, specializing in both postmortem and human performance casework.

Dr. Fagiola holds a B.S. in Biochemistry from Shepherd University, an M.S. in Forensic Toxicology from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. in Toxicology from St. John’s University. He is a member of the Society of Forensic Toxicologists, The International Association of Forensic Toxicologists, and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. Specific interests in forensic toxicology include method development and validation, interpretation of postmortem and human performance toxicology casework, and the training and development of laboratory personnel.
